A new class has started at the Skills for Life Hair & Beauty School in Denpasar, Bali. A short video shows how the Orientation 2026 went.
The school, run by the Skills for Life Beauty School Foundation, gives young people from all over Indonesia a fully funded hairdressing education – with a scholarship, professional working materials and, where needed, accommodation. Education for Life Mondial supports the project together with Rob Peetoom, Davines and Gamma+.
Just inside the entrance, the sentence this is all about is written on the wall: “Learn to love what you do.” Founder Rob Peetoom welcomes the new class in person. The students are handed their tool bags and professional equipment, unpack their new devices and try them out in the salon right away.
Stella comes from Wonosobo in Central Java – a small town: “The air is cool because it’s near the mountains.” The Skills for Life School has an excellent programme that aligns with her interests, she says. Her thanks go to her parents and her family at home – for taking everything off her shoulders, from preparing what she needed to handling the administrative matters.
A large part of the first days is a workshop: a “letter to my future self” and a moodboard. The students leaf through magazines, cut out pictures and glue their goals onto paper. Romy describes his colours – soft tones, black as the main colour, with a mix of light patterns. Natasya’s board is based on her desires: “After I graduate, I want to achieve something.” To be successful – and to own her own home. Jessica holds up her board and names her role model: Ilham Mestour, a great hairdresser from the Netherlands. It is about the dream of becoming a hairdresser, and about collaborating with other well-known hairdressers – just like Luigi Moreno.
At the end the moodboards go up on the wall, and there is the class photo – a whole new year group, just getting started.
