Birdies, Bali and an Inflatable Boat on the Lake – the 27th Charity Golf Cup Play for Life

The short version fits into just a few lines: lots of heart, lots of golfers, lots of fun – and in the end around €14,000 for Education for Life’s training projects. But if you only read these lines, you’ll miss the best stories.

A lot was new at the 27th Charity Golf Cup. For the first time, we played on a Leading Golf Course – GC Weiherhof in Wadern (Saarland) – and for the first time we had a hotel right on the course. The turnout was new, too: more than 60 guests at Saturday’s Fun Challenge, around 100 players on Sunday and almost 120 guests at the charity evening. Records across the board.

Saturday: Steady Aim and an Inflatable Boat

Three disciplines were on the programme: “Drive Nearest to the Line”, “Chip Nearest to the Flag” and a 20-metre putting contest. Anyone who still hadn’t had enough could take aim at an inflatable boat anchored in the middle of the lake.

Our wine sponsor poured glasses at the wine tasting, and the mood couldn’t have been better. From 6 pm, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for dinner and the Fun Challenge prize-giving. A wonderful evening among friends – and the celebrations went on late into the night.

Sunday: Shotgun Start with Pre-Booked Sunshine

Scorecards and tee-off gifts were handed out from 8:30 am, and at half past ten came the eagerly awaited shotgun start. The golf weather had of course been ordered in advance – it was a beautiful summer’s day.

Despite a record field of almost 100 players, the round on the immaculately prepared course ran without any waiting times. Shortly before 5 pm, the first flights came in to finish the tournament at the halfway house, where the “coming home” soup, our wine sponsor’s stand and plenty of stories from the round were waiting.

The Evening: Awards, Raffle, Goosebumps

At 6:30 pm, freshly showered guests in the best of spirits crowded into the clubhouse restaurant, eagerly awaiting the start of the evening programme. President Jens Dagné welcomed everyone on behalf of Golfclub Play for Life and Education for Life Mondial, briefly outlined the evening and presented the raffle’s main prizes. After the results of the tournament came the first highlight of the night: the presentation of the HOPE Awards.

The “Friendship” award went to Stephan Conzen, Managing Director of GLYNT and a long-standing supporter, who had travelled from Hamburg with his wife. Also honoured was Rob Peetoom from the Netherlands and Bali, a training partner who runs a hairdressing school in Bali. He, too, attended with his wife. The couple also donated one of the raffle’s main prizes: a week’s holiday in Bali with full pampering service, including a visit to Education for Life’s training project at Rob Peetoom’s school.

After dinner, the raffle began, and the excitement grew with every ticket. Who would win one of the main prizes – the PORSCHE golf equipment, the suitcases, vouchers, HAIRDREAMS beauty products or the trip to Bali?

Around 400 prizes were raffled off in total – it was genuinely hard not to win anything. We would like to thank our friends and sponsors for their generous support with attractive prizes such as beauty products, computers, iPads, suitcases, golf equipment, wines and bags, as well as fantastic hairdresser and hotel vouchers.

Our thanks also go to Golfpark and Hotel Weiherhof and Rita Becker-Klein for the superb organisation, and to everyone who joined us this year. None of this would have been possible without you – with this result, we can give HOPE.

Thank you – we hope to see you again next year, once again in September!
